The American 250th SAR Committee members work on the national, state and local levels to promote the commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution and the establishment of the United States. It designs commemorative merchandise and SAR member insignia for the anniversary. This committee publicizes the anniversary using media, education, and government contacts. The 250th Anniversary Committee helps develop educational programs and booklets relating to the American Revolution, encourages the internationally-focused SAR societies (including the Canada SAR, France SAR, Germany SAR, International SAR, Mexico SAR, Spain SAR, Switzerland SAR, and United Kingdom SAR) to plan special Congresses during the celebrations, and works with other SAR committees to coordinate celebration of the 250th anniversary.

    Oregon SAR >America250 “Minute”

The Oregon SAR has used the America 250 Minute program for the last year as articles in our weekly E-newsletter the Oregon Patriot. What is nice about this program is that we send out to all our members this program which they can use for their own purposes.

Following are 12 months’ worth of our programs that we have taken from our Revolutionary War Monthly Timeline 1765-1788 document which you can download on our www.america250sar.org web site. There are two programs from Missouri SAR which they have produced as abroadside style publication also included in this package.

Take these as examples that you can use, or to add to for your own needs. Good Luck. From: https://america250sar.org/__static/1f4221012cda59cdaf16659b00e83f2d/rev_minute-1-sm.pdf?dl=1

Resources about Black, Brown and Indigenous Patriots in the American Revolution

African American Participation in the American Revolution

Thousands of African Americans, both free persons of color and enslaved, supported the American Revolution. Estimates range from 5,000, to over 10,000, African Americans participated in the Revolution in various ways. African Americans fought in every major battle in the Revolution, beginning April 19, 1775, and continuing on through Yorktown. They served in the Continental Army, in militias and at sea. The SAR welcomes as members proven descendants of Black Patriots who, by force of arms or rendering material aid, contributed to the Patriot cause.

There are many resources available to assist you in researching your Black Patriot Ancestor. Some are linked here, as well some background information. We also present a few SAR members’ stories of their African American Patriot Ancestor. Please contact your local SAR chapter for help in documenting your SAR lineage. Other SAR members have expertise in this specialized genealogical research and are ready to assist local chapters. Please join us in celebrating the contributions of your African American ancestor to the Patriot cause by becoming a member of the SAR.

Spanish Ties to the American Revolution

The Patriots who supported the American Revolution were not only hardy New Englanders or resourceful Southern backwoodsmen. Many other groups aided the Patriot cause. King Carlos III of Spain supported the Revolution so many in Spanish North America advanced the Patriot cause by overt acts of resistance to Great Britain’s authority.

The SAR welcomes as members proven descendants of the Spanish army or colonial militia who served in a presidio or garrison in what is presently the United States of America, as well as those who made a donativo contribution or served under Gen. Bernardo de Galvez, including participating in the cattle drive from Texas to help feed the Patriots. Please see our Genealogy policies for qualifying categories of service. Spanish forces also served in Cuba and other portions of the Carribean. The SAR recently added this category as eligible for membership.

    Compatriots,

A request for ideas on how to assist our chapters to grow, was received from a Kansas chapter and their questions are directly below.

This led our chapter to search for some of our own questions to help our Chapter and we need your input.

A Kansas chapter asked: In your chapters what are you doing to?

    Attract younger members
    Get members to attend meetings
Create interesting programs for your meeting
When and where do you hold your meetings
Anything else you would like to share about having exciting and well attended meetings

    From Randolph Colby-McPherson, Kansas

Our chapter would like for you to please take a few minutes and think about the questions above and below,
then email our Chapter President, John Flippin, your responses at the following email address: http://jaf_design4fun@verizon.net

    1. Is the current 3rd Saturday of the month working for most everyone?

    2. What would attract more people to be part of our chapter meetings?

    3. What kind of programs would you like to have at chapter meetings?

    4. What other activities or programs in addition to chapter meetings would you like to see our Redlands Chapter try out?

Again, please email your responses to the following email address: http://jaf_design4fun@verizon.net

    Sincerely,

    John Flippin
